Joe Hirst
Joe Hirst is a London-based sound artist and audio engineer whose practice spans music production, moving image, performance and installation. With over two decades of professional experience in recording and mixing, his work brings together technical precision and an exploratory approach to sound as an artistic medium. His collaborations include MURMUR (2022), an interdisciplinary performance incorporating movement and sound, and Indigo Darpan (2024), developed with artist Shruti Gaonkar, a textile and sound installation examining the histories of colonial exploitation surrounding indigo production in India. Moving between the sonic and the spatial, his collaborative practice explores how sound can shape narrative, atmosphere and the experience of an artwork.
