About

Independent queer-led contemporary art, wherever it needs to happen.

Pup & Tiger is an independent, queer-led contemporary art organisation based in Canterbury. We bring artists, writers and audiences together through exhibitions, editions, live events and publishing.

Queer experience shapes how we work: whose voices are heard, how people take part, and the room we make for different ways of seeing.

How it began

Jared and Ash noticed a significant queer population in Canterbury, but no queer spaces. Their first idea was a gallery, a café and a community space.

The programme began before there was a space: calls for work, a zine and Soft Territories: Crossing One, with writing alongside them.

No fixed address

Canterbury is home. We work online, in temporary spaces and with collaborators.

An exhibition can lead to a conversation, a piece of writing, an artist’s book or another collaboration. Our website keeps a record of the programme, so you can return to the work after a project ends.

The programme

  • Exhibitions. Exhibitions online and in temporary spaces, bringing artists and works into conversation.
  • Editions. Artist prints and objects published by Pup & Tiger.
  • Press. Books and written publications from Pup & Tiger Press.
  • After Dark. Performance, sound, screenings, readings and gatherings. The live programme of Pup & Tiger.
  • Curates. Exhibitions, commissions, and programmes developed with artists, organisations, and places.
  • Transmissions. Writing and publishing from Pup & Tiger: essays, conversations, fiction and artist texts.
  • Artists. Artists and writers who contribute to Pup & Tiger.
  • Open calls. Invitations to make, write and take part in the programme.
